Galena -- Lead Sulphide - Semiconductor
PbS = lead sulphide. Touch it delicately with a metal point "cat's whisker" and make a radio.
It all started here, a crystal-set radio.... introduction to semiconductors.
(The PSI Picodiode needs no cat's whisker.)
Research in physics grad school (from which came this single-crystal bit of PbS (galena)....
where one day Wally Wilson came down the hall waving the Physical Review Letters,
shouting "Bell Labs has done it -- a solid state amplifier" (the transistor).
and the world changed
and I went to work at Bell Labs
